A Legacy Rebuilt for Future Generations
First established in 1925, the Forster Surf Life Saving Club has long been a cornerstone of safety, resilience, and community spirit on the New South Wales coast. The newly redeveloped clubhouse—officially reopened in October 2024—marks a bold new chapter in the Club’s near-century legacy.
More than just bricks and mortar, the Forster SLSC has witnessed over 700 recorded rescues between 1944 and 1994, with many more lives saved by the dedication of its members. The new facility was commissioned not only to honour this proud history, but to create a modern, inclusive, and highly functional space that will support both lifesavers and the broader community well into the future.
Guided by a clear vision—including youth development, stronger community engagement, and competitive excellence—the redevelopment stands as a powerful symbol of the Club’s continued commitment to beach safety, accessibility, and local pride.
Webber Architects selected DuraCubes Bathroom Joinery Systems for the project’s toilet and changeroom facilities, based on their proven performance in high-wear environments like surf clubs.
“DuraCube’s a great company to deal with,” said John Webber of Webber Architects.
“They’re flexible and we used their Revit models and specification software, which is fantastic. The pedestal system is highly maintainable. It’s hard-wearing, looks fantastic, and is ideal for surf club conditions.”
The new design includes change areas with showers, bench seating, and partitions that allow for privacy without compromising durability. These spaces can be quickly cleaned and maintained, a must for surf lifesaving facilities.
DuraCube provided full shop drawings early in the process, ensuring seamless compliance and on-time installation with no surprises on site.
The Forster Surf Life Saving Club redevelopment is more than a construction milestone, it’s a tribute to the generations who have patrolled its shores, a celebration of the community it serves, and an investment in the future of beach safety. With durable, high-performance amenities by DuraCube, the new clubhouse is built to withstand the demands of coastal life while offering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for all. It stands as a testament to what’s possible when thoughtful design, community values, and enduring partnerships come together.
